Tradition Eight

Like the other Traditions, this one was a result of the growing pains of the "adolescent" A.A. The bottom line was that in order for A.A. to function, we had to hire some help. Bill W. explained: "For our purpose, we have discovered that at the point of professionalism money and spirituality do not mix...Every time we have tried to professionalize our Twelfth Step, the result has been exactly the same; our single purpose has been defeated. For years we were trying to figure out what in A.A. was professionalism and what was not. This problem arose out of the need for paid service workers in our service centers, the need for people who would do the jobs that volunteers could not or would not do.
